Watson NP-F975 Reviews

NP-F975 Battery Kit with Compact AC/DC Charger is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 246.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Terminals come off Bought a pair of these to power Sound Devices PIX-E5 and they work great. My quibble is the female power connectors are loose and, like Jlm from Boston noted in his/her review, they pop out when you unhook the battery. I was worried that eventually I would pull them all the way out and break the cable, so I used a spot of epoxy to glue them in place, being careful not to get the glue on the inside conducting surface. This solved the problem and haven't had any other issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comparable to brand name but... These batteries work great, but one thing I noticed with these, and feel free to let me know (if that's even possible) you experience otherwise, but the 2 small jacks which receive your devices +/- prongs, tend to hang out of the batteries chassis when the battery is taken away. Not much, maybe 1/8. Today I noticed one of the metal contacts from the F975 battery broke off and stayed stuck on the devices banana clip style prong. I'm using these batteries with a Sound Devices 633 mixer. Is it normal for the batteries terminals/jacks to have some 'play'? I own 4 of these 975 Watsons and about 8 or 10 of the medium and smaller L series Watsons. I haven't had an issue with the others yet, but many I do noticed the batteries jacks contacts are hanging out a tad. Performance/life is great so far. Kinda bummed I lost a contact on one - less than 6 months old.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from long lasting battery We are enjoying our new battery. Upon full charge, it reads over 650 minutes! We have kept it on the camera for 2 weeks straight without needing to recharge. It's a bit heavy for a light camera but as long as your using a tripod, it makes no difference. I have found however that when it reaches about 120 minutes of life left, it no longer has enough power the run the camera. I have also found that the more you turn the camera on and off and the more you remove the battery the quicker it gets depleted. So once we put it on the camera, we leave it on and once we turn on the camera on set, we leave it on - this helps in making the most out of the battery life.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terminal broke after three months I noted in aprevious review that the terminals popped out but the problem was fixable with a bit of epoxy. Well, after three months of daily use, it broke off, making the battery inoperable. Replaced with Sony.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed Used for an Odyessy 7Q+. 3 batteries ogt three full charges out of them. After that always gave a low voltage warning on the odyessy. Charged them from 0% overnight. Only reached 15% Charged. (overcharge?) Placed back on odyessy - again low voltage warning. Tried them on Neweer cn160 video LED lights. One battery gave me about 45 mins at full power. The other two 30 mins til they were all depleted. Placed back on charge. Next day tried on odyessy - no juice what so ever. Then tried on neweer cn160 video LED light - no juice whatsoever. Not sure what's the problem here

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok so far Honestly I bought this product, but I am not confident about its quality at all. I don't really trust any product made in China, especially made under their own specification, or should I say under their own brand name. Sony products do have those Chinese manufactured for them too, but it is under their brand name, then it MUST BE AT LEAST RELIABLE, but again their price are so high. Don't get me wrong, I am willing to pay high price but they MUST BE made from JAPAN. For short this battery brand name, and made from China, I can't tell it's good or not. Time will tell, that is why I give only 3 stars for now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from terminals broke after two days If I could vote zero stars, I would. The terminals on both of my Watson batteries broke within days of use with the Pix E5. Tried rescuing them with superglue. No dice. My experience: only the Sony brand batteries have terminals robust enough to work with the snug fitting male terminals of the Pix devices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lightweight travelling charger Doesn't damage batteries as I found the Atomos charger does... Charging plates are funky though in that they have no locking mechanism and so are prone to come off the charger when removing batteries. Very nice to be able to switch plates to charge various battery types though.

question

How do you know when the battery is charged. I noticed what looks like a light but I would like to be sure before purchasing. Thanks in advance!
Asked by: Daniel G.
Connect the charger to your AC or DC power source. When the charge light turns red, charging has begun. When the light is green, a normal charge is completed. For a full charge, allow the battery to charge for another hour.

question

Is this battery has a specific layout for locking? I have a few different NP-F batteries and all of them work fine across all devices that I have. But this Watson NP-F975 doesn't lock properly on most of my gear (LED, chargers, adapters). It doesn't lock right and it looses connection from little movements, although it's still work on Atomos Shogun and on one of LED lights. The pattern on back of the batterie is offset from others (various brands). Do I have a malfunction battery or the locking layout is specific to Watson?

question

Is this battery compatible with a Sony NX5U Camcorder?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would say yes. I've used this battery on several Sony cameras, including the VX-2000, the FX1 and now the NX3. It seems to be a pretty standard battery.
