Samsung MU-PA2T0B/AM Overview

  • 1Description

The black Samsung T5 Portable Solid-State Drive provides 2TB of storage capacity for notebooks, desktops, and mobile devices sporting a typical USB interface or a reversible USB Type-C port. The T5 portable SSD utilizes a Samsung MGX controller and 3-bit 3D V-NAND MLC flash technology to deliver fast read speeds of up to 540 MB/s and write speeds up to 515 MB/s. To keep up with this level of performance, USB 3.1 technology is on board and supports transfer speeds of up to 10 Gb/s. For keeping your data safe, the T5 is armed with an AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine, which helps prevent unauthorized access. Aside from protections, Samsung includes one USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable and one USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, so you can use the T5 portable drive with your current and future gear.

Fast Transfer Speeds
With Samsung V-NAND flash memory and USB 3.1 technology, the T5 provides transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s, which is up to 4.9 times faster than external HDDs. Transfers and backups of large-sized data including 4K videos and high-resolution photos will be quicker and faster.
The T5's top-to-bottom metal design and rounded unibody framework allow it to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. This T5 comes in an aluminum black finish.
Compact and Light
The T5 weighs 1.8 ounces (51g) with a thickness of 0.4" (10.2mm).
Shock Protection
The T5 has no moving parts and a sturdy metal body, so it can handle drops of up to 6.6' (2m).
The optional password protection with AES 256-bit hardware encryption keeps your personal and private data secure.
Manage your data easily with an intuitive software program for Windows and Macs systems to set up a password and download the latest firmware updates. A mobile app for Android smartphones and tablets is also available via download.
The included USB Type-C to Type-C cable and USB Type-C to Type-A cable provide seamless connectivity without the hassle of purchasing additional adapters.

    Samsung MU-PA2T0B/AM Reviews

    2TB T5 Portable Solid-State Drive (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st Rate Portable Hard Drive I had used the previous model T3 at the same 2TB capacity and liked that portable hard drive a lot. After 1.5 years of daily use in storing work related materials I notice some issues upon opening the drive so I decided to replace it with the T5. I have had the new drive for about 10 days and the transition has been seamless. No problems in transferring data. The transfer speed was very good and much faster than my earlier WD MyPassport portable hard drives. The T5 fits in the same hard case I was using for the T3 so no new case is required although the size is slightly different. You can't beat the size to storage capacity ratio of this portable drive. I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One little quirk I bought this to use as external storage for my PS4. The speed and ease of use is incredible. The only thing I've noticed is that since I installed it, there has been erratic behavior from the PS4 controllers. After investigating, I have found that USB 3.0 and later connections can provide electromagnetic interference on 2.4 GHz bands and therefore may be the problem I've been having. So if you're going to use this drive as PS4 external storage, make sure you find a good shielded cable or one that is long enough to place the drive away from the console and the contoller. Other than that little quirk, this drive is purely amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insanely Fast. Works with everything I have I have partioned out the drive so some partions work with my mac for TimeMachine and the other works as a normal drive for mac and PC for transferring files. AND THE SPEED!!! I transferred 44.45GB of movies onto my computer in 1 minute and 20 seconds! And it wrote them onto the drive in 1 minute and 38 seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speed Nirvana. Using this portable SSD in conjunction with an onboard SSD in my laptop is like speed nirvana. I can do file backups and disc image backups in such little time that it encourages frequent use, which is wise. To facilitate my backups I use the free AOMEI backup tool downloaded online. I believe my very fast backups are the result of two (2) SSD's working together. If you have a typical mechanical hard drive in your computer then you probably can still expect good performance but perhaps not as fast. Also, this Samsung T5 is very small and lightweight. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Portable Storage for my large Construction drawings Large blueprints have always been a pain in my industry - not anymore! With 2TB of storage, I am not even worried this will run out of space and it's durable too - which is what I need. Now, if they can come up with a build-in external keychain loop so I can hook it to my briefcase and not lose it it would be PERFECT!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not supported!?! The good: Very small and travel friendly allowing me to lower the weight of my luggage The Bad: Expensive and still not as fast as Thunderbolt. The Ugly: Will not connect to my brand new smart TV LG C7 55" 4K UHD HDR OLED webOS 3.5 Smart TV (OLED55C7P). Unlike all other drives i have my video footage will not play from this drive even though i have disabled password protection. Which defeats one of the main purpose of getting both this drive and this TV so i could view my MP4 4k video files direct from this travel size drive. I have submitted a ticket to see if there is a work-around.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good for a while then stopped working El Capitan I bought this drive about 6 weeks ago. Everything was great running it as my system backup under Mac 10.11.16, El Capitan. Then one day, it just stopped mounting and I would get a weird message from the operating system: Disk Not Ejected Properly. I had not ejected it. Apple has been working with me on this for 3 weeks. 2nd level tech. Engineers involved. The odd thing is: it works fine on my iMac running High Sierra. And no it's not my usb ports. They work fine with all my other drives. And no, I don't want to "upgrade" my operating system. I have msw and fcp 7 still running on this MacBook Pro.

Because this has USB 3.1 does it require more power than T3 which has USB 3.0? If so would it work via the USB 3.0 port?
    Asked by: Hakan K.
this drive works fine on any USB 3 or 3. port on both 2012-2016 and late 2016 USB-C mac laptop, in my experience.

I hear that this drive comes with Software. I would be using a mac and I do not want Samsungs software running on my computer. Is the software required? Is there a way to delete the software from the drive so it doesnt install? I heard that once the software is installed it takes a computer expert to remove the lines of code to get t off the computer. Basically I wont get this drive if the software is required. Any input?

I have several of these Samsung SSDs. I reformatted them and use them with both Macs and Windows. Using a high speed USB C cable with my 2017 MacBook is super fast. Can transfer several GBs in seconds. I did not install any software on to my machines.

Any thoughts about this versus the Glyph Atom SSD which is a few bucks cheaper and spec'd a tad bit slower (the non-RAID version)?
    Asked by: Robert F.
I can't answer your question because I don't have the Glyph Atom SSD but I'm very happy with my Samsung SSD. It's small, light and super fast.

I am looking for a way to off load my SD cards while traveling. I don't want to bring a laptop with me so I am looking for something that I can transfer the images directly. Can I plug this directly into my Sony a7iii camera using the USB Type C cable? Will the camera be able to power the drive?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I do not know not if it is possible to transfer data from a SD to the Samsung Solid State Drive using the camera to do that work. I always use my laptop with Windows 7, it is not possible with Windows XP or older versions.
